Description

I’m looking for commercial to upmarket stories that span compulsive to comforting reads. A clear hook is a must. An addictive premise that can be summed up in just a few words but will stay in the reader’s mind. I am all about books that stir big emotions whether that’s sobbing or laughing hysterically, filling me up with love and/or longing. I’m especially keen to find healing fiction. Books that tackle big themes such as love, death and human connection in an uplifting way are my favourite, and if they feature a ‘curio’ or magical realist element, even moreso! I’m obsessed with love stories of all kinds – whether that’s romantic, familial or friendship. I’m keen to find authors writing sweeping love stories that are guaranteed to break your heart. Equally, stories that feel akin to a telenovela, full of drama, twists and passion. I’d also love to find a family love story, ideally intergenerational and heartwarming. I’m dying to find a smart, high-concept crime novel that is big, ambitious and international. I’m also eager for something that deals with an obscure crime that we’ve not seen delved into in books before (although nothing too dark or violent please!) I especially love crime books that have the reader rooting for the criminal throughout. I’m still on the lookout for unpredictable, direct narrators in this space. Light mysteries and cosy crime are also welcome but must have a fresh angle or a setting we haven’t yet seen explored. On the darker end, I enjoy supernatural thrillers and books with a supernatural element that can lean into horror. In women’s fiction I’m drawn to novels full of social commentary that sit comfortably in the book club space. I’d also love to find historical novels that delve into society and culture in the second half of the twentieth century (1950s onwards). Otherwise, I like historical-set novels to be a backdrop to something else – for example, a love story or a crime that can be real or imagined.
